Making Soil Potions

In this informative workshop with local farmer, Melinda Bateman, on July 10, from 9 am to 3 pm, we will learn how to make barrel compost, a biodynamic preparation for nourishing your garden soil as well as other methods for cultivating healthy garden soils.

What is biodynamic farming?

The biodynamic farmer views the whole farm as a living organism.  All life is interconnected. Everything that is alive is dependant on others in a network of living things. It is connecting life (BIO) with the interactions within the whole system (DYNAMICS). Biodynamics considers the interactions of the four kingdoms of nature: mineral, plant, animal,
human with in the garden.

Biodynamic gardening emphasizes the activation of the biological life in the soil and promotes skills to nurture the soil, plants and animals. It emphasizes healthy soil and the foundation or a healthy garden.

This workshop presenter is Farmer Melinda Bateman of Morningstar Farms, an 18 year-old Community Supported Agricultural (CSA) Farm in Arroyo Seco, New Mexico. Melinda has been a dedicated biodynamic farmer since the beginning and her farm is an impressive, lush patchwork of produce to behold.  She offers shares in some of the finest and most nutritious produce grown in Taos County.  To become a shareholder for nutritious weekly vegetable shares, contact Morningstar Farm at 575-776-1757 or email: mstarfarm@q.com.  For more information about Morningstar Farm visit: http://morningstarfarmoftaos.com/.
