MEMO TO PLANET EARTH

Dear Earth,

Sorry about the oil rig (Deepwater Horizon) that blew up and sank in the Gulf of Mexico today. Guess there could be some oil pouring from the wellhead into your ocean waters for awhile. We did get around to recognizing that other beings, not just humans, have basic rights.  Well at least a few of us recognize that .  This was a theme at the Earth week Eco Conference in Bolivia.  It's a start . . .

I just wanted to mention to you that now is not a good time for this latest series of natural calamities around the globe , you know, the earthquakes in Haiti, Chile, Taiwan, China, Mexico, Turkey, etc., the volcano in Iceland, the flooding, the . . . We're kind of busy just now with the financial crisis and global recession, fundamentalist terrorism and of course the bailout of Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Spain, Iceland, General Motors, Citibank . . . .

Also if you could find another time for world fisheries to collapse, maybe delay the melting of the polar ice caps, and the rising of the seal levels, etc . . .

It is a very inconvenient time for us humans.  There are nearly seven billion of us now - we need food, clothing, new shoes, and  a couple of billion new i-phones.  What with the economy and all the fear mongers saying that the sky is falling, it would be better if we could put some of these disasters off for a few years and wait for a later time . . .

Let us know what we can do to help out, at a little better time.
